Who am I to AI? Exploring the impact of algorithms at the Falling Walls Summit

Andrea Rosales and David Carbonell participated as invited speakers on Friday, November 7, at the Falling Walls Summit in Berlin, an event where the next “walls” to break down were discussed. In their talk, they reflected on the question: who am I to AI?

They raised questions about the impact of algorithms on everyday life: what would happen if they decided who you can date, if you get a job, or a loan? As AI plays an increasingly significant role in critical decisions, questions arose about the importance of how evaluation is conducted: are models trained with diverse data, or could they reinforce biases?

Event participants had the opportunity to create their own personal “AI portrait,” playfully explore how AI represents age, and contribute to creating inclusive future scenarios. This participation was part of the project “Algorithmic Justice in Aging Societies: (Re)Imagining a Better Future“.
