As experimentation with democratic innovations —such as participatory budgets— has proliferated throughout the world, interest has also grown in measuring which factors explain the development and institutionalization of this type of initiative or in evaluating their impact on society.
Within the framework of the project “DEMOC – Citizen evaluation of participatory budgets in Catalonia” and also with the support of the grants for consolidated groups (2021 SGR 01397) from the Departament de Recerca i Universitats (Department of Research and Universities) of the Generalitat de Catalunya, researchers from the CNSC and GADE research groups have compiled systematic information on the participatory budgeting processes in Catalonia at the local level in a database (Participatory Budgeting in Catalonia through the Decidim Platform).
The open-access database includes information on the continuity or discontinuity of participatory budgets from the 2015-19 mandate up to the present; and combines information on the municipal political context with variables related to the participatory budgeting processes. It contains information on 115 variables and will be continuously updated.
