Mireia Fernández-Ardèvol posted a column this week in the Catalan magazine Cataluña Económica. The note reflects on the use of mobile telephones among disadvantaged populations, and argues in favor of the view of cell phones as a basic need for people, even under adverse economic conditions. Her argument opposes to the view of these devices as conspicuous consumption by people undergoing these constraints.
