Marcela is a doctoral candidate in Digital Media with specialization in Journalism (University of Porto), M.A. in Communication and Culture (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), Specialization Degree in Project Planning for Digital and Interactive Media (Senac-Rio) and Bachelor Degree in Journalism (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). Critical studies on the Internet are a general area of studies. The research taken during the Master´s degree was focused on investigating concepts from the Political Economy of Communications, such as value, commodity and non-paid labour, applied to networks on digital platforms. At a doctorate level, the research grounds are the Network Science, Technopolitics and Text Mining to investigate the political movements in Brazil, in June of 2013 and later. Awarded a scholarship by Capes Foundation/Brazil for her doctorate studies in Portugal. Previous experience in reporting (print news, radio and online), TV & video production, translation (freelance), teaching (School of Communications, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and media activism. Current research collaborator at Communications Networks and Social Change (CN&SC) research group at UOC and The Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) at Inesc-Tec/U.Porto.
