The Barcelona open data meeting is a space for debate and deliberation promoted by the Directorate for Participation and Democratic Innovation, the Municipal Data Office (OMD) and the CNSC’s Technopolitics unit. The aim is to link Barcelona City Council, experts, organised civil society and the citizens of Barcelona, with the aim of promoting municipal data policies more participatory and open.
The new forms of city life and, in particular, public administration, increasingly rely on the collection, processing and use of massive amounts of data generated by citizens, institutions and, more generally, city life. These processes can affect citizens as a whole.
The first meeting was held last 28th November to think collectively, open debates, socialise questions, and explore how to promote public data policies that serve citizenship and rights in the city. The aim is for citizens to have a greater capacity to influence the processes of data collection, processing and, above all, the use of data. The meeting also sought to consolidate stable spaces of participation around data and public policies, giving continuity to the space with several sessions.
