Mireia Fernández-Ardèvol offered a keynote presentation at the Ageing & New Media Symposium, hosted by the University of Western Australia between December 1 and 2 in the city of Perth.
Her presentation, “Media practices of older internet users: a reflection around an online survey“, critically reflects on the potential and limitations of the survey Mireia and co-author Andrea Rosales used for the collection of the data. The survey targeted a commercial online panel, which guaranteed a fast, high-quality data collection. However, they also faced the usual limitations regarding the neglect of marketing research to include the oldest segments of the population. The authors argue that a discussion on these issues helps to better understand the improvements researchers should aim at.
This output is part of the ongoing research project “Cross-national longitudinal study: Older audiences in the digital media environament“, supported by the ACT Project.
