Invitation: Workshop on Methodologies for Studying Algorithmic (Age) Discrimination and Fairness

We invite you to participate in the workshop on Methodologies for Studying Algorithmic (Age) Discrimination and Fairness, which will be held on November 27, 2025, at Leiden University (on-site). This event is organized by the AGE-AI project, whose mission is to study the manifestations and consequences of ageism in the multitude of domains where Artificial Intelligence (AI) interacts with human beings.

AI is making crucial decisions in our lives, but its rapid implementation has generated concern about the biases that can create or amplify discrimination based on sensitive characteristics. In this context, the workshop’s main objective is to position AGE-AI’s scientific work within the landscape of algorithmic fairness studies and to address fundamental questions: How can we conceptualize, diagnose, and mitigate algorithmic discrimination? What methodologies allow us to open its “black box” and design morally and legally accountable algorithms?

This project seeks to create a multidisciplinary dialogue space, bringing together statisticians, computer scientists, sociologists, law experts, and ethicists to connect their perspectives with those of the AGE-AI project. If your work is linked to the interaction between AI and humans, and you are interested in algorithmic discrimination and fairness, we encourage you to participate. You can send a short abstract (max 300 words) to present your work, or simply join the workshop without presenting. Speakers discussing methodological considerations from multi-disciplinary perspectives are particularly welcome.

The deadline to register (with or without presentation) is November 19, 2025, clicking here.
