On last Friday, April 22nd, the Minister of Culture of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, Santi Vila, presented the annual report of the public libraries in 2015 in Catalonia, as well as the results of a study on non-usage of these public institutions.
The study was conducted by Dr. Núria Ferran Ferrer of the University of Catalonia and CN&SC member Mireia Fernández-Ardèvol. The goal was to describe the profile of library non-users and examine the reasons behind this pattern, delving into their cultural habits, preferences and perceptions. The study was conducted by means of a representative survey of the 15 years old or over population resident in Catalonia. The results show that 45% of this population has either never been to any library of the public network (non-users) or has not been there in over a year (ex-users).
