Description: This pioneering research on Latin America fills an existing research gap. It assesses the contribution of mobile communication from a macro, meso and micro level to economic growth, (in)equality, poverty, rural development, and empowerment. This project aims mainly at assessing the social and economic impact of the spread of mobile telephony in Latin America, especially amongst the most disadvantaged. Five case studies were developed in four countries (Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Chile) while a series of macroeconomic models were specified and evaluated.
